The James J. and Mary Edith Rhoades Scholarship Fund

“We are so happy to offer this annual scholarship with the support of the Foundation and all of our friends. Education was the cornerstone of my husband’s personal and professional life. He was always trying to help kids better themselves by supporting, creating, and developing programs to enhance their learning capabilities. This scholarship is our small way to continue his work and to “pay it forward” as he did through his life,” stated Mary Edith Rhoades.
“And working with SACF has been great. The process of administering a scholarship is daunting and we are delighted by the great participation we've experienced. The partnership with SACF has made things work smoothly, and we are thrilled to work with the community foundation as we develop our scholarship program. We’re very excited about the future of the scholarship and expect it to grow so we can offer more each year.”
The purpose of the Fund is to award annual scholarships to qualified Schuylkill County High School seniors planning to further their education. Students must exhibit a commitment to:
- Education – Acknowledges the importance of education as a valuable tool for an individual’s success. Exemplifies positive use and appreciation of education and plans to utilize educational opportunities in the future.
- Citizenship – Possesses a positive response to being a member of their community. Embraces a sense of community and giving to others in actions and nature.
- Community Participation/Outlook – Exemplifies volunteerism and community involvement in the past and plans of participation in community activities in the future.
